INTRODUCTION - What is Colorfon?

Colorfon is a all about Phonetics, which is basically the breakdown of language into sounds rather than the individual written letters of the alphabet.

Phonetics was first studied by the ancient Greeks, so nothing new here. What they realized was that when we speak, our brain doesn’t have to work very hard to produce the required result. The acquisition of speech is natural(all babies do it without thinking) and probably essential to our survival as human beings. Reading and writing on the other hand, being relatively new in the long course of human evolution, we could actually exist without. Because of this, when we need to learn a new language, written languages that use symbols(letters) that reflect or copy the actual spoken sounds, have a great advantage over those that don’t, and are called Phonetic languages. Unfortunately, to the chagrin of perhaps millions of aspiring language students, English isn’t one of them.

This is why Colorfon was created.

Colorfon attempts to give a hand to those learning to speak English by converting the written text into phonetic text. This means that every symbol or letter that is visualized, is always spoken(pronounced) in the same way. No deviations!.... Ever!

Colorfon is not meant to be some kind of new-age, digitally-atractive alternative to traditional written English. It can play a role, and an immportant role, in helping to master the pronunciation of this horribly frustrating nightmare which is the written English language. But that's all. It can neither help you to spell, read or write, nor teach you grammar. We leave that to the countless methods and textbooks already out there in classic and digital form. That being said, understanding and practicing the correct sounds by playing Quadrix can allow anyone to become a master of the often neglected art of pronunciation. You can then throw Colorfon away. It is only a means to an end. Understanding phonetics is a process that helps to overcome difficulties with pronunciation, but you won’t need it for ever. Like a means of transport, it takes you where you want to go, after which you are self-sufficient and are free. free to discover the next level. Free to present yourself with pride a confidence to the world! To a world just waiting to hear what brilliant ideas you want to share.

That's all there is to be said for now, so,

Best wishes to you all, and Good Luck.

A introductory exercise to make your first acquaintance with Colorfon. A MUST for beginners. Just click on each image, listen and shuffle.

Now move the corresponding word image in the last column to it's position alongside it's partner on the left. Continue down the list. Use the arrow to jump to the next page. There are 18 pages, one for each of the Colorfon symbols("fons"). By the time you're done, you will have a basic knowledge of what Colorfon is all about, without any effort. If you do have difficulties or doubts, just hang in there. This is a new experience for our brain to adjust to, but the beauty about humans is their ability to adapt to foreign environments.

Rememember this even as we might strugle a bit to accept what seems unorthodox and perhaps unfriendly. I always say to my students - "don't say 'No!' Just say 'Yes!' and try it: I promise you, it won't hurt". There's nothing more to it than that. All you need now is practise. Are you ready for your first GAME? The last page of Shuffle will take you there.

This is WHERE IT ALL HAPPENS!
The best way to learn the 'rules' of Quadrix is to refer to the HELP page. This will give you all the info you need from a - z.

The basic lessons are very simple:

1. Every word begins from a highlighted yellow cell.

2. The first and last cell must always be filled.

3.Points are only lost when innapropriate fons are clicked. Mistakenly chosen "cons" and words have no penalties attached.

I have made the interface to be as intuitive as possible. Each game has been meticulessly tested for errors, so if an action still doesn't compiute after repeated efforts, go to the help pages - you will most probably find your answer there.

Just one piece of advice: Take your time. It's not a race. You won't get a medal for finishing first. The more time you take at the beginning the more your investment will be a solid one. If you try to be focused in the first few games, in a very short time you will have mastered the code and from then on life will be a breeze. Completing the games will become pure entertainment. And that's the idea.

but If you are unsure of the meaning of any of them, just use Google to translate it into your mother tongue. Every new game will contain a new list that you can copy and paste into the text file of your choise, if you want to keep a record of the vocabulary. Most of the vocabulary is pretty basic*. This is intentional, as initially we need to concentrate our attention on mastering the names(sounds) of the symbols and their application.

Pages 1, 2 and 3 are immportant and should be looked at before sarting. Pages 4 to 7 are more for reference, but will be very useful when you get stuck. Once you start playing you will see that the main actions you take are repetative so the sequence will, in a short time, become second nature to you. At any moment you can refer back to the info pages by clicking the "HELP" icon at the top left of the GamePage.
